WBCAP 2024 First Merit List

The West Bengal Department of Higher Education has officially issued the Round 1 Merit List for the West Bengal Centralised Admission Process (WB CAP) 2024 on Friday, July 12. Candidates who have registered for the counselling process can check their seat allocation results on the official website, wbcap.in. Moreover, the WBCAP second merit list for 2024 will be announced on July 23. This merit list is the key selection criterion for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by participating colleges across West Bengal.

Candidates will have to login to their respective student dashboards on the official website to check the merit list. It is advised that students download their seat allocation result and pay the acceptance fee to confirm their admission.

STEPS FOR ADMISSION BASED ON WBCAP 2024:

  1. Applicants to obtain the Round 1 Merit List by going to the official WB CAP website.
  2. Each applicant will be assigned a provisional seat based on their merit list ranking and college preferences (as mentioned in the application form).
  3. It is critical for applicants to thoroughly study the designated college and course before accepting.
  4. Applicants who are satisfied with their assigned seat must proceed to complete the online acceptance process.
  5. Students who prefer to pursue alternate choices may decline the seat.
  6. These applicants will be able to participate in the following rounds of the admission process.

The first round of centralised admissions began on June 24 and involved 16 state universities as well as 461 government and government-aided colleges. Students could apply for up to 25 undergraduate courses among 7,217 distinct courses. Candidates should be aware that Presidency University, Jadavpur University, and several autonomous and minority colleges are exempt from the system, as clarified by West Bengal’s Education Minister Bratya Basu.

The minister has also told PTI that the common admission process would eliminate the chance of one student with outstanding grades being admitted to many universities at the same time. Such students tend to hold their place in the desired institute and vacate the others. As a result, many seats are left vacant year after year. In the centralised approach, one candidate will be offered only one seat at a time, based on the results, with the possibility of a better opportunity if there is a vacancy elsewhere.
