1. Rugby World Cup

The Rugby World Cup is an international rugby union competition played every four years.

This sport is invented by William Webb Ellis around 200 years ago.

This edition of Rugby World Cup will be held on October 2023 in France. Stade De Frances Stadium in Paris, France will host the final match of Rugby World Cup, which is also the location of the Olympic Games opening ceremony which will be held next year.

First Rugby World cup was held in 1987 co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. During the first three Rugby World Cup only sixteen international teams participate, 1999 Rugby World Cup was attended by twenty international teams. Last Rugby World Cup was held in 2019 and was hosted by Japan. 2019 Rugby World Cup was won by South Africa defeating England. South Africa and New Zealand has won Rugby World Cup three times, Australia has won twice and England once. The winner is awarded the Webb Ellis Cup, named after the creator William Webb Ellis.

Rugby World Cup is organised by World Rugby. World Rugby is the international governing body of this sport.

Cricket World Cup was first held in England in 1975. Since then, Australia has won this cup five times followed by India and West Indies which won this cup 2 times each.

Cricket World Cup is organised by International Cricket council (ICC). All the rules and regulation are laid out by the ICC.

The 13th edition of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will be held in India. Cricket is a major sport of South Asian Countries. Cricket has huge fan following in these countries.

England are the defending champions, having won the previous edition in 2019. England will face stiff competition from India, Australia and Pakistan, all of them are former champions.

Cricket World Cup is a One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament played under the 50-over format. First three Cricket World Cup was played under the 60-over format but since 1987 number of over is reduce to 50 by ICC.

After FIFA Men’s World Cup held in 2022 its time for FIFA Women’s World Cup.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand will host the first match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The final match will be played in Sydney Stadium, Australia.

Six football confederation will send 32 teams to take part in FIFA Women’s World Cup. United States won the last FIFA Women’s World Cup. This year defending champion US will face strong challenges from Netherlands, Germany, England, Sweden, Brazil and France. US has won FIFA Women’s World Cup four times.

Brazil’s captain Marta will be star of FIFA Women’s World Cup as she holds the record for most goals scored at FIFA Women’s World Cup. She is one of the greatest female football players of all time.

4. Asian Games

Countries from Asian continent come together to compete in Asian Games every four year. 19th Edition of Asian Games was scheduled to be held on 2022 but was postponed to 2023 due to Covid-19 pandemic. It will be held at Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Athletics from Oceanic countries such as Australia and New Zealand and other countries were also invited in the 19th editions of Asian Games.

This mega tournament consists of 61 sporting events which are divided across four categories. These four categories are – Competitive Sports, Ball Sports, Adversary Sports and Water Sports. Two of the disciplines are E-sports and breakdancing — both of which will debut in the Asian Games at Hangzhou.

This the third time China is hosting the Asian Games. After Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010 this edition of Asian Games is scheduled to be held at Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China.

5. World Aquatics Championship

World Aquatics Championship is held every two years. World Aquatics Championships are the World Championships for aquatics sports: swimming, diving, high diving, open water swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo.

World Aquatics Championship was first held in 1973 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia after that it is held every two years. But due to Covid-19 pandemic World Aquatics Championship was delayed and subsequently postponed to 2023. This year World Aquatics Championship will be held in Fukuoka, Japan from 14 to 30 July, 2023.

World Aquatics Championship is organised by FINA. Countries which are affiliate to FINA can send their athletes to take part in the competition.

6. Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup held every two years is an international men’s golf competition. Different teams from Europe and the United States, participate in the Ryder Cup. The venue alternates between courses in the USA and Europe.

The 44th Ryder Cup will be held at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Rome, Italy from 29 September to 1 October 2023. Ryder Cup presents unique and exciting opportunities to golfer as they team-up to represent their country.

Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio near Rome will host this biennial event starting from September 2023. United States will defend their championship which they won in 2021.

7. Cycling World Championships

Cycling World Championship is a world cycling event held every four years. It is held just before Olympic Games. Cycling World Championship is warm-up to Olympic Games. All the cycling world champions come together to compete and warm-up to the Olympic Games.

Cycling World Championship will be held in historic city of Glasgow, Scotland in August 2023. This is great event for all the cycling fans out there.

Various disciplines of cycling are brought together as one event which include UCI Road World Championships, UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

The Scottish Government, UK Sport, Glasgow City Council and various local and national bodies are engaging in holding this event.

8. World Urban Games

The World Urban Games (WUG) is a multi-sport event which included sports like freestyle flying disc, parkour, indoor rowing and laser run. It’s a new-generation sport event featuring both competition and showcase urban sports alongside a cultural festival. The first edition of World Urban Games was held in Budapest, Hungary from 13 to 15 September 2019. Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) organise this event.

The plan to organise such multi-sport even was conceived by Patick Baumann, former GAISF President. He could not organise this multi-sport event in his lifetime. After his death, his dream of organise this multi-sport event is continued by his fellow executive member. And on September 13 to 15, 2019 this multi-sport event was held in Budapest, Hungary. This event was a great success. After the success in 2019, the second edition is scheduled in 2023.
