In a recent interview on Today, Kim Cattrall announced that her cameo as Samantha in the And Just Like That season 2 finale would mark the end of Samantha Jones character.

“This is as far as I’m going to go,” Cattrall said.

“[But] I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha. She’s like a lot of other characters that I’ve done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I’m so appreciative of her.”

Cattrall admitted that she would never completely say goodbye to the role.

In May, Variety unveiled that Cattrall would make an appearance in the second season of the Sex and the City follow-up series.

The scene showcases a brief phone conversation between Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie and Cattrall’s Samantha, with Cattrall shooting her part separately from the show’s current cast.

This unexpected cameo has surprised Sex and the City fans, after Cattrall’s public statement in 2016, where she declared she was finished with the character due to creative differences over the script for a proposed third film.

The fallout from Cattrall’s decision resulted in strained relations with Sarah Jessica Parker, who continues to portray Carrie Bradshaw in And Just Like That.

In recent interviews, Cattrall mentioned that her only condition for returning as Samantha was the involvement of the original Sex and the City fashion designer, Patricia Field. Collaborating with Field, Cattrall ensured that Samantha’s styling for the cameo was impeccable, with Field sourcing a fantastic outfit from Bergdorf Goodman.

Reflecting on her brief return, Cattrall described the experience as dipping her toe back in time and enjoying a wonderful afternoon, followed by a great martini.
